dear forum members,

I am quite new to the whole webhost, server, myownsite thing. However I found a problem, which i thought wasn't there.

It's really simple, i wanted a new part of my website to be not visible to visitors yet. So I used the protect option, next to rename and edit. Note that the part of the site I was protecting is in the public html section.

Once you set it up, that part of the website requires a username and password, alright thats the way it should be.

However, I was looking at my site with my android phone, newest 2.2 firmware on it and thus the newest stock android browser. And went to my protected area. I didn't even see a request for user and pass. It just loaded the page as if there wasn't any protection at all!

Anyone knows this problem/has a fix?

If you tried it before you protected it, it may still be in your browser cache or even your provider's cache, if your provider has one. Have you tried it from any other browsers? From any other ISP besides your phone?

I presume you're aware that when you use Protect you're protecting a specific subdirectory and everything in it, not anything at the same level. If you want to protect public_html you need to protect the domains/example.com/public_html directory.

no i didnt access that part of my website with my phone, before i secured it. Indeed i know i protect a submap of my site, as that was exactly what i wanted ;)

anyone knows a fix?

I have no idea what a submap is.

To protect a subdirectory you run the protect option on the specific directory you want to protect. This has always worked for me.

If for some reason it doesn't work for you, then you can certainly do it manually using .htaccess.

You didn't tell us the URL of the directory you want to protect, so there's no way we can help you more than this.
