Protected Directory Affects the whole site instead of only its directory!

Hello guys,

I recently moved my site to a new host and we have a problem.
After I try to protect a directory using the "Password Protected Directories" option or with the "Protect" bottom next to the directory, I get a Window prompt that requires a username and password in all of my site's pages.
And after a few times clicking cancels or enter ok with empty values shows the site.
The only way to fix it is to remove or rename the .htaccses or delete the Protected Directory from its list.

I really need your help guys to find a way to fix this problem.

Thanks

In fact you should ask your host for support.
This forum is for Directadmin customers (so admins and resellers), so not for end customers of hosters using DA. They should provide support for their customers.

It can be any kind of thing, maybe too many or wrong entry's in .htaccess, hard to say, but this kind of support is for your host.

Thank you but if I got any reasonable answer from them, I wouldn't even bother you guys I thought you might have a solution or it might know the issue.

I understand your frustration. However, if there's an issue with DA, they should take it up with DA.
If the host doesn't give good support to you as a customer, it might be a good idea to change hosts.

Since things show up after pressing cancel several times, this looks to me like host configuration issue or even a DA bug, which we can't fix. And you can't make system changes as customer, hence my previous answer.

As temporarily solution......
If things are working when you remove the protected directory, I would suggest to keep it removed from DA and try if it works better when you create a .htaccess manually (so not via the DA panel).
Also be aware that a protected directory can protect the directory and any directory underneath.

Thank you so much for your advice, I have created the .htaccess manually didn't work.
I have removed the directory form protected list and add it again but didn't work, so for now I decide to change the URL of the and make it more secure.
Unfortunately, I have changed my host provider last week and this problem appeared since then, Also I need to mention that I moved my site to the biggest and most famous host provider in Iran but ...

Anyways thank you for your answers I really appreciate it.

You're welcome. Pity to hear that you just moved provider and they don't give the expected support.
Maybe if you tell us how you created the .htaccess manually with the directory removed from the protected list, we can help you fixing this.
Because this should be possible with a manually created .htaccess and .htpasswd file.

Hello Dear Richard
After I manually created the .htaccess and .htpasswd file files and didn't get the result I wanted, I removed them and create a new one with the automatic way but the problem came back so I decided to change the URL.

Thanks for your help.
Best regards Mani

Hello Mani.
Please don't quote complete posts. :)

I presume the problem is fixed now by changing the url?
Anyway, if you decide to have the .htaccess investigate on a later point, just let me know.
