In DirectAdmin 1.667 version, changing the FTP account password through the DA backend does not take effect immediately. You need to execute the command pure-pw mkdb /etc/pureftpd.pdb -f /etc/proftpd.passwd to apply the changes.

In addition to the above command, it might take a minute if it's done via the DA task.queue. Normally you never need to use the manual command.

That's why I advised to check the task queue, to see if it might be hanging or taking longer for some reason or maybe not working at all.
