Purge email in DirectAdin, is not deleting trashed mails, but deleting all mails..

Hi,

I thought this was the definition of purge email: Purging email is when the messages you have marked for removal by the delete command are erased from the server or your local computer drive. Once email is purged it cannot be recovered. Be sure you have archived or do not need any messages marked for deletion before you issue the purge command.

So, purging inbox would mean: Delete all mails that were actually already trashed. But it doesn't, at least in DirectAdmin it doesn', it just 'deletes all mails' as I would call it. Has it always been this way? Or not before this feature was added https://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=794? From this day purging inbox wasn't deleting trashed mails anymore but deleting all mails, 'because' trashed items were regarded as being spam from then?

purging inbox would mean:

Would mean deleting all the mail in the inbox.

I don’t use the feature that much but in general. Whatever you select all gets deleted.

Not sure why there is a even selection for Inbox.

Thanks for your reply Brent. Yes I know all gets deleted, but I am curious, is it logical non-trashed mails get deleted when it's called Purge? Maybe you already gave me the answer "No, it isn't in my opinion too" because of this sentence "Not sure why there is a even selection for Inbox." but I am not sure, please let me know.
Also to other users of this forum: What are your opinions on this semantics matter?

that option, Called " Purge Folder ", so It's just purge folder that show in list., not include other Mail Box,
eg... "Trash Box"

"Trash Box" is one of Mail Box, and seperate from "Inbox", that should be logics

I just mean I personally think there is no real need to Delete everything in the INBOX. Not sure why anyone would want to delete everything in the INBOX. Therefore not sure why the entry is there.

Thank you for explaining Brent. Good point, I agree.

Would it make sense, or would it be nonsense, that we would have an option ‘Trash bin’ in the Purge button select list, to make it more clear/clear at all? See image below. Let me put it another way: When I switch to Dutch language the Purge button is called “Legen” (which means “Emptying”), which is perfectly clear.

Seems to me this is correct. Purging is clearing out, definitief verwijderen. So purging a mailbox would indeed empty the selected box. Otherwise it would be called "delete selected mails" or something. Purging normally is used (as far as I know) to really clean up, not only selected things.

As addition. I don't think there is much misunderstanding about this. The first post you pointed to is from 12 years ago, I didn't read it again.
The second post you pointed to is something totally different. It was a question of me if a certain automatic setting for the spamfolder could also clear out mail from other boxes partly.
Which in the same post I pointed out that other mailboxes from the same domain (it was the same company) did not loose any of their mail.
Also there was no question of purging, just loosing mail from 2 months.

I don't have this on any other accounts, or ever encountered again so imho he did delete them himself for some reason.
