I am sure this has been talked about a million times, but most threats I have seen are very old.

Is push mail possible utilizing DA?

I do not think push mail relates to DA in any way. DA is a web hosting control panel that is used to configure services. If you can get push technology to work on a server then a plugin can be written to configure the push technology.

I am specifically talking about push functionality with exim or dovecot. Similiar to exchange operates, to where you do not have to keep checking mail for new messages to appear like on an iphone for example.

It is always connected and the messages is instantly added to the inbox, if that makes sense.

Thanks,
Nick (sorry for the lack of clarity)

You probably should ask the question on the Dovecot list or forum or whatever they have. My little bit of research suggests that Dovecot can do it.

Hi

If your looking push messages via Active sync on your DA server then have a look at Z-push (http://z-push.sourceforge.net/soswp/)
I tested it over a year ago and was great but a few bug, looks like they have a few new versions since then so could be fine

If you looking for push email not via active sync then I believe that the DA install supports Imap Idle which is almost like push email, in fact a lot of times my mobile picked up the email via Imap Idle just before my pc did. however you need a client that supports Imap Idle

Regards

David

Push can be emulated by using IMAP's IDLE feature. For example, Blackberry Internet Service can use IDLE to "push" email to your handset. It actually works quite well.

And its something that has to be configured in Dovecot not DirectAdmin.
