I read that DA can not be used on a LAN because the license is set to an external IP Address.

Why cant DA set the license address to a LAN IP. I have paid for a full license and i cant use it now the server is on a LAN with a dynamic IP. I require this for my university studies?

Any help/advice/pointers?

Tom

Hi Tom,

DA can be put on a LAN as long as the DA server has a fixed IP that can access the internet. The reason for this is that the DA server needs to verify the license every couple of days.

As the people at JBMC Software have invested heavily in the development of DirectAdmin you have to agree that it is their right to validate that the licenses used are valid licenses.

Regards,

The reason for this is that the DA server needs to verify the license every couple of days.

Directadmin does not callback for license verification. More info in this comment by John on the subject, the post and the thread also go further into the issue at hand.

So if i set a static route to my server from the router of (eg 192.168.0.10) And asked DA to set my license to that IP, it will work ?

Tom,

No. Directadmin does not allow 192.168.x.x or 10.0.0.x addresses, for more information please follow the link I posted in my previous post.

Seems you are faced with two options;

- Find someway to have a external IP address available for the Directadmin server you are running.

- Contact John / Mark at [email protected] too see if they are willing to refund your license, as it will not suit your needs. Although I must add that the need of a external license is explicitly mentioned in the System Requirements.
