Question about Mailing Lists in DirectAdmin

I hope someone can help me. I've been googling for two hours with no success and my hosting company's tech support is incompetent.

I am trying to set up a mailing list in DirectAdmin. I’ve got the list set up, but I’m not certain what all the setting for the mailing list do. What I need is a guide that simply states what each of the about 30 options do. I can’t believe such a thing doesn’t exist. If anybody can point me in the direction of such a thing, I would really appreciate it. If such a thing does not exist, here’s what I need to set up, maybe someone can just tell me what setting I need to change from the default.

I want to disable the digest options.

I only want one list moderator to be able to send to the list.

I want to set the “Reply to” to the moderator’s address. (That much I was able to figure out.)

I only want the moderator to be able to see the members of the list (If there is even a way for someone to see it.

I want the moderator to approve list subscribers.

How does a user sign up for a list? I used a different system years ago and it had a web sign up interface. Does this have that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DirectAdmin doesn't send you a properly filled out List Owner Info file when you create a list. Perhaps it should. I host one, which you can use for reference, but it's generic and not filled out specific to your list. You can find it, and the majordomo readme.txt file, here (nobaloney.net).

Not by default. Majordomo was written before the web was invented.

However a web-based interface was created for it. It's ancient, requires a lot of hand work to install, and hasn't been updated in years, but it is available. I host a copy of it, here (nobaloney.net) as a favor to those who need it but I don't maintain it and I can't help with it except as a commercial (paid-for) service.

And yes, using Google is an art as well as a science.

I'm currently in discussion with John on the subject of offering Mailman integration inside DirectAdmin.

Mailman is much more recent and offers a lot of features you don't get with Majordomo.

There is a thread in this forum that details how to install Mailman in DA.

The trick would be to have a script that allows each site admin to do their own installs....as it sits now, the server admin gets all the joys of configuring the list(s).

I would think SMTALK would do the coding.
