Greeting i have 2 questions, i plan tu buy the personal license 2$/month and i am wondering 2 question.

1) if i buy the license, will i be able to keep it even after you stop selling it ?
2) I plan to run DA on a VPS server, but the issue there is thats this vps only come with 1 Ip adress and not possible to obtian other ip's.
i already tryed to run DA in the past with just 1 ip but all i my domain requiered at least 1 master dns and 1 slave dns. How i can deal with thats ? (i am not a pro)
I currently use plesk panel with a slave dns provider thats use AXFR for zone syncronisation, but i see directadmin dont have thats. Whats my option in this casse ?

Thank you for your time.

Hello.

1.) Yes, as they stated, the $2,00 personal license will be declared legacy and not be sold anymore in august this year. Anyone who is using it and keeps paying in time (important!) will be able to use the license as long as they pay for it or until it's declared end of life.
Downside of this is that with legacy licences you don't have pro pack and will get updates but no new features.

2.) There are multiple solutions to this.
a.) You can use 1 ip for ns1 and ns2. Which is not desirable, but it is possible by just using the same ip for ns1 and ns2.
b.) Another solution is to rent a very cheap vps somewhere, no DA needed and run Directslave on that one. Normally it will also come with 1 ip, so then you can use this as second nameserver ip. And with Directslave all will work fine.
c.) You can use an external DNS/Nameserver service like Cloudflare
d.) You can use the DNS of the domain name registrar in most cases

With DA's LEGO option, it's often possible to update external DNS automatically.

thats use AXFR for zone syncronisation, but i see directadmin dont have thats.
AFXR can be used with ANY panel, so also with Directadmin. Have al ook at Directslave, it's created by a user here on DA. There is a thread about it but you can also have al ook at directslave.com for it.
So yes, this is very well possible with DA too as explained in point 2b.

Thank you for your answer Richard.
Wondering can i use cloudflare as slave dns ? It is free? do we have any tutorial for it ?
Just looking for a cheap or free slave dns solution.
My website have very low to no volume on it.

Regards.

You're welcome.

As for cloudflare pricing, you have to check here:
they have a free service, but officially that is for home users. Some us it though. ;)

There is also clouddns, but that is also not free as far as I know.

There are free DNS solutions but I don't have experience with them, I always use my own.

However, with Directslave you can use a cheap VPS or even a cheap pc running at your home ip if that has a fairly static ip.
Or like I said, use the 1 ip for both nameservers.

Or maybe somebody else knows a good free slave dns provider. Maybe freedns.afraid.org or something. I don't know.

Sounds a lot like the lifetime licenses you offered.. you can keeep using them until we decide you can't.. and even if you do keep using it, eventually we won't update it anymore. I wouldn't trust this company at all OP.

I don't offer anything. I'm just a user here like you. And DA is trustworthy as for example they didn't even change prices for like 15 years. Show me another pro panel which didn't that either. Also any other panel (cP or Plesk), when even lifetime licenses are still available and working, that will also be until they are declared end of life.
That might be many years, nobody can say that, but it's like that with almost *any* company.

The official way is better and has certain reasons. For example if your server is down, dns is not reachable anymore. Normally not an issue.
However, your domains will also not be recognized anymore (logically) and for mailservers, that is a reason to maybe send back the mail to the original sender as being non-deliverable.
While if you have the 2nd NS on another server, the domains only will appear to be offline and mails will get into a resend queue and retried later on.

This is only one example. There might be other reasons.

Having that said.... yes if you don't mind you can work years like this. It's not desirable, it's not like should be according to RFC, but certainly it's possible without issues.
Especially for starters, extra servers and ip's can be expensive. When we started many years ago we used 2 ip's on the same server, which is just as "bad". :)
