Questions about debian packages.

I have searched these boards but I can't seem to fine an exact answer as to how to block packages when using apt-get. I am afraid that I may have already screwed things up. Does anyone know exactly how to do this?

It turns out it's not as simple as I thought but I googled for apt-get exclude packages and clicked on I'm Feeling Lucky and found a great thread on the subject.

I am going to give that a shot and see how it goes. I had hoped that there was a way to do it without installing a third party application.
