Just noticed on some of my servers, when I visit websites (in this test, my home server) with lynx in ssh, the IP that is broadcast is never the one in eth0, they always broadcast the last IP in the eth0:nn list (i.e eth0:6)...... and on others it broadcasts the correct eth0 IP......

I know random question, but would love to know a/the reason for these behaviours.

Actually, this is deeper than I thought. I had to reconfigure my /etc/network/interfaces as my datacentre said my IP's were misconfigured (arp who-has thingy)......

So to humour myself I decided to send a test email, and:
Received: from server3.laws-hosting.co.uk (chiltern.laws-hosting.co.uk [94.23.155.155])
but before I reconfigured, it always sent as the server IP, like:
Received: from server3.laws-hosting.co.uk (server3.laws-hosting.co.uk [188.165.208.43])
Now I'm confused as to why this has changed

Ok, panic over....... Managed to fix it....... it was the gateways for the extra IP's......... took them out and all is well.........

I need a holiday!

One holiday season coming up :).

And only one gateway needed/desirable, but you already figured that out.
