I believe I represent many hosting companies out there who desperately need this feature implemented. For hosting companies to have a better profit margin, they need a more elegant data replication solution. This would also encourage companies to stick with DirectAdmin rather than defecting to other control panel solutions.

Please work with R1Soft on integrating DirectAdmin with their Enterprise/Standard CDP software. cPanel and InterWorx already have the integration so that individual user has "R1Soft Backup" icon in the control panel. Upon clicking the icon, individual user will be able to access their remote backup and restore their individual files.

Thank you.

Do you want this just because of perceived value? Or is there an actual advantage to using R1Soft? If so, what?

Jeff

To be honest, I was a bit surprised to see this type of question.

Perceived value, yes. Actual value, definitely.

How do you restore your files for your customers? With R1Soft, you don't need to get involved. The users will be able to click on the R1Soft icon to get to their "Disk Safe" to retrieve whatever is necessary for them. I don't know about you, I already have enough on my plate, if there's a way for me to charge additional $10/month and restore user files without my involvement, I am all for it.

How about you?

continuous user backups (configured by admin) with no need for intervention by staff to restore as its integrated into clients CP. It's a HUGE advantage although has its price tag.

While others may see different behavior, we hardly ever get requests to restore; generally under one each month. I might be interested in using R1Soft, depending on how it's priced. I'll talk to them at some point, but perhaps user overpin can respond to this: Do I have to pay something each month to R1Soft whether or not my users use it, or is $10 per month paid to R1Soft for each other who uses it?

It depends on who you get your license from. If you buy it directly from R1Soft, there's a one-time fee of $348 for the R1Soft Agent (Free for Server). If, however, you buy from http://www.jonesolutions.com/backup.html, it's $250 upfront, but you'll have to pay $50/year for maintenance. It is expensive, but you'll get your money very soon, plus higher customer satisfaction.

It's already available for DA

Someone could sell a plugin to make it easier..., but no need to integrate this into DA imho, there are other priorities.

Not entirely true. I could not see the R1Soft icon on DirectAdmin. For this single reason, I had purchased cPanel just for my more prestigious customers. This is what R1Soft said:
"cPanel allows you to enable Auto-Login. Ensim, Plesk, and DirectAdmin do not allow you to create a link with Auto-Login to the CDP Server."

I don't think r1soft is right here. I think you could perfectly write a plugin that enables Auto-Login, but I haven't looked at the details.

lol as a former user of R1soft, I can say it is 2 seconds to add the link to a template file.

So in no way would it be a show stopper that forced you to go with cpanel just because.

Would it be nice for them to add a little more convenience in sure, is it preventing you from using the two together .... no!

for my needs yes, is it a feature by feature replacement of r1soft no.

My solution does not allow customers to restore backups but works better and is much cheaper than r1soft.

we use Virtuozzo on all our servers and then use its backup agent to backup to an iSCSI partition which offloads the IO onto the SAN which is then backed up over the private network to another iSCSI mirrior in another datacenter so recovery is as simple as mounting a backup on a new server.
