Depending on the version your upgrading from and two usually you can. For example you can upgrade from FreeBSD 4.9 to 4.10, But you can not upgrade from FreeBSD 4.x to 5.x

DA will have no problem with an updated RHEL.
The problem will be in how you update it. And that depends on whether your vendor has current licenses for each of their services, or just installs the image (which might be in violation of the RHEL license).
Check these forums for the list of RPMs which must be in your exclude list.
