Reinstall

Due to a lot of problems with our server, we will reinstall the server from zero. We will also run an different distro of linux. Has someone some experience with this? I have actually some questions about the backup and restoring of the users database. (we cannot keep the data as we will replace the hard disks with bigger ones).
