Has anyone else had this same problem? I have NEVER got this to backup successfully to remote server, here is the usuall errors I get.

that is the remote path I entered which is 100% correct. Other people have told me they never got this to work either, Whats up with that?

Warning: ftp_chdir(): Can't change directory to /home/optix/dabackups/: No such file or directory in /usr/local/directadmin/- on line 30

I assume you are logging in with the username optix on the remote server but it looks like you may be logging in with the directadmin user name which of course you do not want to do.

From the error you are trying to put the backup in /usr/local/directadmin/home/optix/dabackups which of course does not exist unless you create it.

Also for whatever username you are using ftp already puts you in the home directory of the user. So you just need to use the subdirectory as the remote path.

This is what I think you want to do. I think you want to save the backup in /home/optix/dabackups so for the remote path you would put in dabackups and use the username optix.

tried this as well but after the update it will show the file, selecting it and hitting submit puts it in que, but I get message saying
Warning: ftp_chdir(): /public_html/bkup/backup-Apr-25-2007-1.tar.gz: Not a directory in - on line 30
Invalid remote path '/public_html/bkup/backup-Apr-25-2007-1.tar.gz'
seems no matter how I type the remote path, it has this error.
some trys on remote path will not show the file on update, so I am assuming that if after the update and it lists the file, it has found it?......

same, I think it tries to use tmp or somethingand fills it up, not sure but its never ever worked for me. Before someoen said it was wrong remote path ya know but i done it comlpetely right and triple checked a few times.
But I guess it works for some people. 3 different servers its never worked for me

It works for me every time. I have a dozen or so servers backing themselves up to a remote server.

Looks like you are enter the path wrong. You are only supposed to enter the path not the file name. This error:

Warning: ftp_chdir(): /public_html/bkup/backup-Apr-25-2007-1.tar.gz: Not a directory in - on line 30

makes it look like you entered the filename in the path.

Can you get a ftp client to upload to /public_html/bkup? Does /public_html/bkup even exist?

felosi:

You need to provide error messages in order for us to help. Simple saying it doesn't work will not get you any answers, only more questions. The only reason it will work for some and not for others is because other are not entering something correctly.

I will try it again tonight. I havent done it in a while so may have been a problem with the version, dont know. Ill update post, But im about 100% sure that new beta feature for admin backups fails everytime for me.

your right, :)
path-ing is the key, now I went from one DA server and requested a backup from another DA server and it found all the backups that were made on that site, cool so far, my intentions here are to move a couple sites from one DA server to another DA server due to their size and traffic requirements.
confusing to me is the option 'Step 2: Select IP'
Use the IP stored in the backup
Use the IP from the list:
As I will be changing the IP from old server to new server, seems neither of these options are appropriate, does this mean it wont work?
when processed, an error occured
backup-Apr-17-2007-1 is not a valid username
I used the correct user from old server and this has duplicate user on new server, I didnt write 'backup-Apr-17-2007-1' as the user???

You want to use one of the ip's in the list and not the one stored in the backup. The list has the new ip and the backup has the old ip. I don't think you are wanting to use the old ip since the old ip is still going to be in use on the old server.

ok works, but I had to fist delete the user account I had setup, then do the restore from ftp otherwise I would get an error.
The steps were not to have a user setup and also to have the restore file named exactly as the user name, other it would fail or say
'backup-May-1-2007-1' is not a valid username, which was only the name of the backup file, so I changed it to username.tar.gz
now you think this system can handle a 62BG site? compressed would be smaller, guessing around 15GB?

I should mention that deleting the user allowed me then to select the IP that I wanted it to be on

The admin backup includes the username in the file name. It should never create a file without the username.

appreciate all your help, floyd :)

or should this be done a different way?

I don't know. I have not thoroughly tested the admin backup system.

We believe (and allow for) the following:

Your root directory has to have enough available space to create the backup. So you'll have to have enough space to create the backup (15G? 62G? somewhere in between?).

FTP for a large site should work but may take a long time. It's probably going to take a long time to backup this site, a long time to trasnfer it, and a long time to restore it.

It's probably going to work if you have enough space on both servers.
