I have a bunch of servers that I want to switch over to DirectAdmin, but I just cannot see myself moving to WU-IMAP. It is horribly slow with large IMAP accounts, which I have *a lot* of.

I'm starting this poll to see exactly how many people are interested in switching over to Maildir format along with the Courier IMAP mail server.

Please show your support!

I say yes. but the problem DA will have to consider is migration methods for previous installations ;)

I spoke to John at DA about this. They are aware that a change is indeed needed. It is now on their "todo" list. However, when this is actually done is another matter. Other then DA integration of an external dns server, I can't see anything being more important then this. Email is one if not the most critical feature to hosting. Send your request to [email protected].

I find this more important than DNS replication, personally...

Ok, this is due to the fact I already have DNS replication running here. I've still got problems to work out (one large b*tch of a problem actually), but for the rest it's working perfectly.

The IMAP accounts currently on one of the servers tripple the load to about 2.80 when a users tries to login by IMAP.

I see this problem as well.

You can especially notice it when you open a larger account in squirrelmail and it loads, and loads, and loads, and loads until you see the folder listing and then loads some more. ;)

Well it is definitely a big problem. It's not exactly fast even with smaller accounts.

Has anyone noticed that this is more prominent since the implementation of SpamAssassin?

I was looking into the issue, and the first "slow" complaints came shortly after SA was implemented.

I vote for courier-IMAP also.

If you want it, email [email protected]

They are aware, but pound the notion into their heads :)

Really right now I find this whole imap mail issue a mess. It's slow even without a lot of emails.

I believe this is being worked on currently by ballyn and toml. They have made a lot of progress and have a working model. They need to still address some matters. Don't quote me on this, but the thread is somewhere on the board.

If you search the forum, this has been accomplished to some extent by Ballyn I think. Ask Directadmin to look at this and consider supporting this. They do plan a inevitable change to maildir but who knows how long it will take.

If I recall correctly DA staff posted at one time that the problem was in converting current servers.

If someone else has done it I wish they'd post so we could know at what stage the project now exists.

Someone just posted a tool for converting mbox to maildir. They said it fully orks with 2 execeptions. I will see if I can find the link for you.

Sorry it was for the opposite, converting maildir to mbox.

I asked Directadmin about it and they said "it wouldn't likely be for a substantial amount of time."

Well I guess that answers everyone's question then:( There is a how-to on how to implement it, but without DA supporting it, I'm not sure I would deploy it. I wish DA would release a major upgrade like this soon, or at least integrated dns clustering.
