Hello folks!

I have installed directadmin on linux, I'm started to configure it today, and I have some questions about limiting and monitoring tools.

First thing which is very important for me - how can I limit cpu usage and maximum number of apache processes by directadmin tools for each vhost ? I have found some threads here about monitoring tools, but information there is obsoleted. I know about mod_throttle, bandwidth limitng modules and so on, but I must be sure before starting to use this (don't want to reinvent the wheel).
Second is monitoring tools. I know about mrtg, cacrti, gethering information manually, as well I want to have some daily reports by usage. Can directadmin do this ??
Third. How can I monitor and set limits for mysql usage ?

And what about transfer users between servers ? I want to transfer some users to other server, I can make backup as reseller, but I can't restore it on other server, I have no this option in directadmin.

ah , what about suphp ?

I hope for your help guys, I need to start with directadmin as quickly as possible. and sorry for my "cute" english =)

You cannot do this with DA. You can manage the number of connections to a particular ip from your server using mod_limitipconn. But you have to be the server admin to do it.

DA has daily usage logs. for each user and web site.

You can probably tweak the my.cnf file.

And what about transfer users between servers ? I want to transfer some users to other server, I can make backup as reseller, but I can't restore it on other server, I have no this option in directadmin.

You can make backups as the admin, reseller, or the user and then trasfer the files over and restore. Which method you use depends on what access you have to both servers.

There is no "Easy Button." To be a server administrator requires a lot of reading. Start reading the DA documentation, read about custombuild, read the site-helper.com, read the forum.

Thanks for you reply floyd.
I want to limit cpu usage for each vhost. Mysql usage for each vhost. I need statistics for cpu/memory usage for each vhost. I need suphp.

Can DA give me that ? or I must do it manually ? I hope this question will be sounds more clearer.

There are a few here that are more competent than me. But it sounds like you want DA to be your system administrator which it is not.

I'm asked this because i'm very busy person. I must to know I need spend my time for this things or not. It's also reason I bought the DA.

I can rephrase my question, is this full list of features ?
http://www.directadmin.com/features.html

If DA has no more functionality, and has not possibility to extend features I'll be not ask more.

If you had spent some time reading about DA then you would already know the answers to these questions.

If you are too busy to learn to be a system administrator then you should probably hire one.

DA will give you general stats such as web, mail, ftp.

DA will not:
Fine tune mysql
Limit CPU usage
Provide stats on cpu/memory usage on vhosts
Be your system administrator. No control panel will do that.

I was not asked about standard functionality. If this question is hard for you it's no reason to be rude to me. DA just can't give me this functionality, ok. It's hard to just answer what DA has not this possibilitys ? xD

it's no reason to be rude to me

Excuse me but I was not rude to you. Go back and read the posts. I only stated facts. I was never sarcastic or called you names or anything like that. I simply stated the facts. I stand by every single thing I said and it in no way reflects poorly on you. No disrespect was ever intended or expressed. If I wanted to be rude to you it would be a 1000 times worse than anything you have perceived in these comments thus far. Again that is just a fact.

I've closed the thread. It's gotten too personal. I'll delete it in a few days, if you, exn, send me a pm (click on my username in this post) to tell me you've read my reply.

But Floyd, though he may not have been as gentle as you would have liked, and may even have been a bit too, well, I suppose succinct is as good a word as any, is right. DirectAdmin is not designed to be a systems administrator, nor to replace one. There may be some control panels which are better suited to someone who wants the control panel to do all or even most of the management, but there's none that I know well enough to recommend.

If you're going to use DirectAdmin and don't want to take the time to become a systems administrator, or cannot for some reason, then you should probably consider hiring a systems administrator.

I, and others, on these forums, offer these services at competitive prices for what we do, and for the peace of mind we offer.

But you reallly can't expect us to take the time to fully explain how to do things that systems administrators should either know how to do, or at least know how to find the instructions.

Take a look at the right side of the top of my post. See how many posts I have? Probably over 90% are helpful. Floyd and others have been extremely helpful as well. But there is a limit to how much time we can take away from our own companies to help you.

My company is possibly an exception, because the main thrust of NoBaloney Internet Services is in systems administration for DirectAdmin users.

Many of us offer commercial services. Many of us are as helpful as we can be without impacting our own time limits.

And that's just the way it is.

Please open another thread if you have a specific question and perhaps we can help you.

If you'd like to contact NoBaloney Internet Services to discuss commercial services, my phone number and email address are at the bottom of every thread. If you send me a PM please include your email address or phone number, as otherwise your reply may be delayed.

There are many others of us here offering commercial services as well.

Good luck to you, either with DirectAdmin, or with any other platform you may eventually use.

Jeff
