Hi,

I succesfully restored the websites, databases and some other things from a system backup. But i now need to know how to restore the e-mail accounts + e-mails. Any guide / help available?

First make sure the users are created, both physical (site) users and virtual (email) users.

If both systems are mbox, you need to either move the mbox files into the right place, or if some mbox files with context already exist on the new system, concatenate the files.

If both systems are Maildir then just move the files from the directories on the old server to the directories on the new server.

If the oldest is mbox and the newest Maildir, then find a script to convert the old mbox to Maildir, then move the files as above.

If the oldest is Maildir and the newest mbox, then create the newest to Maildir and proceed as above.

It's both mbox. Are there any other directories or files i have to restore except
/var/mail and /var/spool/virtual?

I'd like to restore all e-mail accounts with their content, and also see them back in the e-mail accounts list in DA.

as jeff mentioned, you should create the accounts manually for the site on the new server first

Yeah, but isn't it possible to restore the old DA settings/accounts? The system backup backed up everything including the /usr/local/directadmin directory.

Mailboxes and mail identities aren't in the /usr/local/directadmin path, but rather in the /etc/virtual path, the /home/USERNAME/imap path (for Maildir) and the /var/spool/virtual path (for mbox).

If you restore all of those check, as the mailboxes may be properly installed.
