Hi,

I have a VPS hosted at Argeweb in the Netherlands and would like to add Reverse DNS to the correct host.
--> Because Microsoft blocked the IP and reading their policy I need to add a Reverse DNS.

I would like to do that but I don't know how.

I have an external DNS where I can add the hostname with an A record.
The part I don't get is how to send mail from the mailserver (VPS) with the correct hostname.

Do I have to go to DNS Administration and add the Zone there?
Domain: vps.domainname.com
IP: 123.456.78.123
NS 1+2: which are listed in the External DNS
and select Create Reverse IP Lookup ?

( I don't use the DNS on the VPS. )

Ask your vps provider to add reverse dns to your ip if you don't have that option in your client area.

Thats not the issue. I can do that (already did that).
But if I understand correct I also need to make sure when sending email the mailserver sends with the new hostname.

I think I need to add the Zone but I'm not that familair with reverse DNS and how to setup.

Thanks for your message.

I think it is now correct after adding the Zone.
I do hope I did all correct because of the lack of knowledge.

On MXtoolbox it does look correct but not sure if that reliable.

It does give an error when testing my mail with mail-tester.com:

I have not deleted the ahv-id-18265... zone. Could that be the issue?

Your IP address 145.131.31.74 is associated with the domain vps.contentblocks.nl.
However, it appears that your message is being sent from ahv-id-18265.vps.awcloud.nl.
  • IP: 145.131.31.74
  • HELO: ahv-id-18265.vps.awcloud.nl
  • rDNS: vps.contentblocks.nl

Type hostname or uname -a on your server and see what hostname you have there. If you have ahv-id-18265.vps.awcloud.nl try this https://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=405 to change your server hostname or hostnamectl set-hostname vps.contentblocks.nl then service directadmin restart

Thanks!

Yes the hostname is still: ahv-id-18265.vps.awcloud.nl

When I go to the Admin Settings I can change it.
But before I do that, do I have to leave the NS1 and NS2 as is?.

Its now set to some IP
NS1 194.165.34.130
NS2 194.165.34.131

Oke, did it. will check in 10 minutes again. If it works I'm very thankful for your help!
