Reverse lookup DNS for mailserver

Hi

I have come across a mailserver that does not accept the mail that is sent from DirectAdmin (a mailserver out of my control):

550 5.7.1 This system is configured to reject mail from XX.YY (DNS reverse lookup failed)

From what I can see, I need a PTR record. But, do I need to go through my ISP (IP block owner/datacentre) and have them or will a change in the local DNS be enough? It should be possible to have PTR record in the zone for this domain, so that XX.YY IP referers to mail.XX.YY.

You will need to get your data center to do it unless they SWIP it to you.
Actually Floyd, SWIPing and assignation of rDNS authority are two different things.

We moved into a new data center a bit less than a week ago. We still don't have the SWIPing done, but we've had the rDNS assigned since we got the C-class allocation.

AT&T did not give me a choice. I told them I wanted to control my own reverse dns and they told me they had to SWIP it to me. So I figured that was how it was done. So I guess they did 2 things and I thought it was 1.

When MCI was my upstream they did the same thing.

Yeah, AT&T did that for my home DSL connection as well.

Our current data center, and our last data center, did 'em separately.
