reverting back to apache 1.3.x from 2.0.x

I installed apache 2 recently, but am having frequent problems with it crashing. I tried to revert back to apache 1.3.x, but get the following error when running ./build php

checking for Apache 1.x module support via DSO through APXS... configure: error: You have enabled Apache 1.3 support while your server is Apache 2.  Please use the appropiate switch --with-apxs2

*** There was an error while trying to configure php. Check the configure.php file

What is the best way to revert back to apache 1.3?
