my custom_versions has

php5:5.5.15:php5-mail:5.5.15:

cmd used was

echo "php5:5.5.15:" > custom_versions.txt
echo "php5-mail:5.5.15:" >> custom_versions.txt

but it still uses 5.5.17
trying to get to a point where I know GD was working properly.

I found my error, should be

php55:5.5.15:

and not

php5:5.5.15:
