Hello All,
If this is the wrong forum, sorry :D
Here are my questions:

1. Can I install DA on a server that has CentOS installed, and or Debian and use this in a production environment?
2. I plan on securing the operating system first, and am wondering if there is anything I should be aware of or steps to take in order to prevent DA installation process from failing. Basically I am guessing I wouldnt chattr -i the /bin directory if DA needs it. Any input is greatly appreciated.
3. If I were to purchase the lifetime license is there a way I can get extended support, or pay for support yearly?
4. Do I have to have a license for each webhosting account I will have on my server, or is the license for the entire server?
5. How secure is DirectAdmin?
6. What steps can be or are taken to harden it.
Thanks in Advance,
SN

It'll work for now, but perhaps I'll do some reorganization at some point.

Yes. Personallyl I prefer CentOS as DA was originally designed for RedHat, and to this day everything else is a port. But I'm only a forum administrator; I don't work for the company and I don't speak for them.

We always secure the OS afterwards; perhaps someone else has some experience with securing before the installation. That said, you can install standard RHL firewalling first if you want, and then be sure to modify it later (or replace it with the KISS firewall or the APF/BFD firewall later; search this forum for more info). If you do, be sure to keep port 2222 open, as well as port 80, port 53, etc.

Ask the DA sales department. Most new users are under the misunderstanding this forum is an official way to contact the DA staff. Generally it isn't, though they do read it from time to time.

If you're like most of us you'll do well with the peer support offered here.

See my sig if you'd like; we're in the DA aftermarket support business.
4. Do I have to have a license for each webhosting account I will have on my server, or is the license for the entire server?
DA is sold per server.
5. How secure is DirectAdmin?
I don't believe DA itself has ever been hacked. DA uses many RPM installs (see my list elsewhere on these forums of what to use in a CentOS install), but most of it's Internet-facing daemons are custom compiled from source.
6. What steps can be or are taken to harden it.
DA doesn't manage updating your system. We suggest you set up yum for automatic updating (be sure to see my exclude list posted on these forums), and keep track of important changes to the other software on your system.
