Hello,

I wonder how secure an out-of-the-box VPS (CentOS and DA) is? I have some Linux-knowledge (installing & updating) and a decent knowledge about Apache, PHP and MySQL, but not in terms of server-management...

I have seen the "Basic security"-help page, but I wonder if there are any decent tutorials, articles, ... on "keeping your VPS secure"...

Thanks a lot!

Keeping your VPS secure shouldn't be any different than keeping any dedicated server secure. If you're not comfortable following the suggestions on these forums, perhaps you should have someone else manage your vps for you.

Or possibly get a managed VPS.

Many of us on these forums (including me) do this kind of work.

Another issue is the security of your VPS itself, but you have no control over that; you should be sure your provider knows security and keeps their host machines secure.

Jeff
