Server / Domain-Level Image Compression

Hi there,

I've posted a feature request here https://feedback.directadmin.com/b/feature-requests/domain-level-image-compression already, but I was wondering if anyone else in the DA community knows of a tool which can be used to compress images across the server?

My hosting is primarily geared towards photographers etc, and naturally they use a lot of images across their sites. There are tools (mentioned here), which can compress images across an entire server or just a directory.. however, it seems that it will change the ownership of the files.

As DA creates users at a server-level, it would be great to harness those users and have a way to run these tools at a domain-level, preserving ownership.

Any ideas?
 
All the files in /home/USERNAME/domains/*/public_html/ have permission - owner=group=USERNAME
After running such a script as root you can change back the permission - use the chown command

or you can run the compression tools as user1, user2 etc.
 
So do you think there might be some clever people around here, who might be able to develop a DA addon for such functionality? I think it would prove beneficial to a number of people and I believe it would be a good addition as other panels don't seem to offer this functionality, unless I'm mistaken.
 
Would be nice to have this, i think a addon could be made without any complex details. I was thinking about making/let someone make this addon too.
 
I see you upvoted the request. Hopefully it can gain more attention and happen. Otherwise, looks like it might be a custom job.

I would not be happy seeing that my 5MB photo files became 50KB files :)
 
If i would develop such a plugin i would not auto optimize everything, only people who want that can do it if they desire. It is not allowed to modify customer data without their conscent.

Yes, sure, but it should be a module in their panel.
