Hi,

I have a dedicated server and DA was installed for me yesturday. I followed the instructions on added the domain name and nameservers. So far so good.

The domain I purchased for this server, is now ready to be use. My question is how do I set this up?

The domain is with 1&1 hosting.

From the 1&1 domain control panel I have a few choices.

Add A record - I have done this and the domain resolves to my server. but no dns servers (cannot ping them).

Add my own DNS: I have the choice of add ns1.domain.co.uk and ns2.domain .co.uk

If I do that I get: Subdomains of the original domainname as name servers for the original domainname need a fixed IP!

So I entered the IP and get: The name server is not sufficient or hasn't been approved.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you're going to use your own namesevers, what you need to do is make sure you have the "ns1" and "ns2" A records resolving to IPs that exist on the DA box.. pretty simple. Also make sure the NS records for the domain are set to those values.

Note, you can either use "ns1" (without quotes) for the values in the A and NS records, or the full "ns1.domain.com." *with* the dot at the end. If you use the full value and forget the dot, named/bind will append the domain name giving you ns1.domain.com.domain.com.. which isn't what you want.

Anyway, once your A records resolve locally on your DA sever, the rest is up to your domain registrar. Login to your registrar, and register ns1 and ns2 as namesevers to the IPs you've set in your A records. Give that a bit... once that goes through (can sometimes take a while) then again at your registrar, you'll set the nameservers you've created and assign them to your domain, so that people know which namesevers to use when doing the lookup. Wait a bit longer for that to go through and you should be done.

Note, that all of the "Nameservers" pages in DA simply add the A and NS records as described above, so their use isn't really required (I don't use them myself).

Hi,

I've set up a second domain by following the help instructions but it does not seems to be working. When i try to set up wordpress with the domian, the message says that the server not found. I was wondering if i have to wait for at least 72hrs for the domain name to be resolve, or is it something else.

Any help will be apreciated!
Thanks!
