Well... I'm a total noob in DNS. I'm trying to setup my dns with DA. I've got one IP, so someone told me to use freedns.afraid.org's backup dns feature. I really don't understand it.

I also understand that in my registrar I'm supposed to configure my DNS address but I don't know how, I've got lots of DNS records and I don't know what to do with them...

I'm hoping someone could guide me.

Thanks for all.

Presuming you have your own server...

Set up your IP# as the IP# for ns1.example.com, where example.com should be replaced by the name of a domain you own and are using for DNS servers.

As for ns2.example.com, I can't help you with freedns.afraid.org (and even if I could I might not because I sell commercial slave DNS service :)), but I can tell you that you should add the IP# they give you as a second virtual nameserver, as ns2.example.com.

Except I just checked, and it appears that freends.afraid.org doesn't offer slave DNS; you have to set up each domain you host there yourself.

Your registrar:

You have to register the two nameservers, each with it's own IP#, with the registrar where the domain itself was registered. How to do that differs from registrar to registrar; if you registered your domain with me I'd be happy to tell you how to do it; you need to contact support for YOUR registrar.

Also setting up the DNS

Hello,

I am also new in DA (i normally work in eatserver) and i dont have a lot of experiance with DNS
I am moving a domain to a new server where i have build a new site for it. So i have changed the ip adresses in DNS but nothing happens i am waiting for over three hours now and still i end up at the old site.

I have noticed there was no acknowledge button to confirm the changes as in eatserver.
So my question is: is just changing the ip adresses in DA enough to make the change?

Kind regards
Henk

Hello,

Unless you have NS servers pointed to a directadmin server you should probably change IP not only in Directadmin, but at a domain registrar or where you hold DNS zone.

For more detailed answer please provide a real domain name, or check it yourself here: intodns.com
