Since today SSL error connecting to DA license API

Since today when i try to connect to the DA license API i get the following error:

Unknown SSL protocol error in connection to www.directadmin.com:443

It seems DA has changed the protocol, older servers running centos lower then 6.6 cannot connect anymore, i updated curl and openssl but still the errors keeps occuring.

Is this a configuration 'error' from DA itself?

We had tried out a new cipher list to address Chromes mention of "obscure" ciphers. This included removing TLSv1 to force TLSv1.2.
I've undone that protocol setting, so it should be working again, but I've left the new cipher list.
