site doesn't appear

i uploaded my files with the filemanager, in public html.
but when i type the site in my browser it gives me an error, what could be the prob ?

please help
 
This could be a difficult problem or possibly a very simple one.

For every new account a default index.html file is automatically created in the public_html folder.

Sometimes when I upload a new website I forget that the start page of that website is index.htm (instead of index.html). So if I forget to delete the default index.html file, apache will serve that default page instead of the page I was expecting.
 
ehum, problem still not solved

i had allready deleted the index.html, or index.htm

and he still doesn't want to show me my page, instead i get

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

What is the name of your index page?

It need to be index.html (or one of the other default directory index page names as specified in your main httpd.conf)

my page is named kotsite.html

is it necesery to name it index.html ??

my button kot doesn't work, how come?
i've checked my code and normaly there shouldn't be a problem, because when i open the file from my hard disk it shows no problems

www.kotsite.html is not a valid url (".html" is not an existing tld).

I did a little bit of searching and I think you meant www.kotsite.be, correct?

The kot button is not working because the file kot1.jpg is missing. Upload it again and it will probably work. If it exists, delete it and upload again (maybe it got corrupted during upload).
 
kotesite.be resolves to a site; www.kotesite.be can't be found.

kotesite.be is using the ns.dns.be nameserver; it looks as if no one has switched it to your nameservers yet.

www.kotsite.be isn't working now, but it was working yesterday (which is how I found out that kot1.jpg was missing by looking at the javascript in index.html). Something must have changed between yesterday and today.
 
i still have probs with the images, although i don't have these when i open the site from my computer, not from the internet
 
kot1.jpg is still missing (see my previous post).

Have you checked already if it is actually on the server?
 
I have found the problem.

The filename is Kot1.jpg (with an uppercase "K")
but the javascript uses "kot1.jpg" (with a lowercase "k").

Remember, on linux filenames are case-sensative. But Windows is not. That´s why it works on your Windows PC and not on the server.
Rename the file on your server to kot1.jpg (with a lowercase "k") and it should work.

thx it works just perfect now !!!!
now i need to make changes, but first exams, so will be after a month :p
 
I hope you don't mind a little bit of feedback...

If I were you I would select different colors for the font/background. The yellow font on that blue background is difficult to read, especially on certain TFT-displays. On my laptop for example it is barely readable.

If I can give you a tip, try the following websites:

http://www.easyrgb.com/harmonies.php
http://www.colorcombos.com

There you can find color combinations that work well together (there are many more of these websites if you're interrested, just Google for "harmonies colors" or "color combinations").
