Slow Inbox - IMAP/Squirrelmail

Help!
I have 1 account that is unbelievably slow when using Squirrelmail or IMAP through Outlook. It takes forever when working with the INBOX (other folders are ok). It's not a size issue, as this INBOX has maybe 50 messages, while I have others with over 1,000 that are much faster. It can take 60 seconds easily to open the box.

What can I do? I was assuming the box was corrupted somehow but don't know how to rename or repair it.

I'm on a Redhat machine.

We seem to be having a similar issue although Squirrelmail is running fine.

When running Outlook Express it takes ages on imap, it has only just occurred in last couple days and we have done nothing on server.

average server load is 0.20 so there is no load issue.


Any ideas?

We had a client today with a similar problem; his squirrelmail downloads would eventually time out.

We deleted all the spam emails, and everything started working well again.

I'd imagine one of the spams may have had a broken header or something to stick the imap download.
