hi there,

I tried configuring an email account in outlook 2010
Just like few more people on this forum it failed with sending mail (smtp)
I tried everything i've read on this forum but nothing works....

when i change the smtp server to an other smtp server I use on a different mail account (mail.planet.nl) it does not fail and sends the email...

changing the port to 587 and using SSL or TSL gives no result,

But it is not the correct way to use it, so how can i solve this?

Since you are using planet, I'm pretty sure its blocked by your ISP.
Also if you are using your own SMTP, use 587 and enable 'authentication required' for SMTP.

You don't say which version of exim.conf you're using, but the following is true as far as I know, on all recent versions of SpamBlocker 2, 3 or Spamblacker powered exim.conf, Version 4.

You should not be using SSL or TSL. You should use plaintext authentication on port 587. It works for my clients using Outlook.

I've got the same issue.
Using port 587 and plaintext authentication gives the following error

Send test e-mail message: The server responded: 550 relay not permitted

Any other suggestions how to solve this issue?

Kind regards,

I know with my servers even with port 587 I had set them up to use popb4smtp. In that case the Outlook Test message would failed unless the pop account had been checked first with 30 minutes of testing.

This was a custom configuration. I don't know if its your server or not. If not you might want to check with your host to see how they have it set up.

Oke i've tried to use the outgoing mailserver of my internetprovider.
It works.
So if your provider is planet (kpn) you should use smtp.kpnmail.nl or smtp.planet.nl for your outgoing mail.

Cheers,

That did not solve your problem. You just chose to use another email provider.

I might have a sollution after trying out some settings.

You can try these settings as it worked for me:

Step by step:
-Incoming and outgoing server should be the same

In Tab - Outgoing server the following settings
- select: My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
- select: Use same settings as my incoming mail server

Then use outgoing server: 587 and make sure you don't use encryption connection.

Cheers .

thnx R2F

I did your steps as you said and finally it works!
thank god it took me ages!

thnx!
