I work at a facility that blocks port 25 for sending outgoing mail. I have tried to create a workaround by using a port forwarding connection through ssh to send my email from Thunderbird. Everything is set on the Thunderbird side but when I try to send a message, I get the following error:

An error occurred while trying to send mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: *OK[Capability IMAP4REV1 LOGIN-REFERRALS STARTTLS AUTH=LOGIN]host.********************.com IMAP4REV1 2003.339 at Tue, 12 Feb 2008 12:11

So this means that it is connecting through the ssh port but I am just not receiving the info. Do you know if there is something that I need to change via DirectAdmin in order to connect to smtp through ssh?

Thanks

Thanks

I will try that. I thought that port 587 was enabled by default and so when I tried to connect through Thunderbird to 587, it didn't work, so I figured that they had just blocked that port also.

You can ask your company's network admin. Of course if it's against company policy for you to send email to your own server from your job, they'll just tell you that :).
