Softaculous Auto-Installer: First install of Wordpress on my new DirectAdmin server, found lots of scripting features like Clone, Stage, Backup/Restore etc. Are they reliable for professional use? or have they become redundant and now replaced by plugins?

That is part of Softaculous Wordpress Manager and the features work just fine. They are reliable to enable you to create a clone or staging version of your WP website. The backup and restore feature works very well and you can use it to move WP to another server if needed.

Thanks Leon, my hosting support suggested that those features are out of date and not recommended now that WP has auto-updates? why would they say that?

why would they say that?
I haven't a clue and don't think they do either.

The WP Manager in Softaculous is about setting auto updates, reset admin password, etc - more info here Softaculous WP Manager. The features offered such as cloning, staging, push to live, etc could be very useful if for example you wanted to test some new code (change theme, new plugin, etc) in a staging environment and then push it live once your happy rather than editing your live website or you want to move your WP site from one host to another you could use the backup/restore feature.

Hope that helps.
