After all the searching I've done on these forums regarding SSL (TLs) & domain pointers, I am now entirely certain I'm not the only one having problems. Since I finally figured it out, I'll post a brief tutorial about at least 1 way to handle this situation.
problem: I have 2 domains-- songatmidnight.com & songatmidnight.org. I want to be able to type songatmidnight.org in my address bar and have the browser redirected, securely, to songatmidnight.com.
On its face, the best way to do this would seem to be to add songatmidnight.org as a domain pointer to songatmidnight.com & then acquire a certificate. It doesn't work. What I finally ended up doing was:
1) I removed songatmidnight.org as a pointer to songatmidnight.com & set the .org version up as its own separate domain.
2) I then went to the redirection menu (Account Manager > Site Redirects) under songatmidnight.org and created a new permanent redirect to https://songatmidnight.com. I did not give songatmidnight.org its own certificate, but songatmidnight.com does have 1. Note also that on creating a separate domain, an index.html file will be placed in the public_html folder. In order for the redirect to work, that file will need to be deleted or renamed to something other than a default index file. I renamed mine index.htm1.
It works slicker than vaseline on a brass doorknob. HTH someone.
