Spam problems!

Hi,

We've been using directadmin for our servers since 2004 till now and so far so good, we have no problems.

Lately, we note that a flood of spam messages passing the spamassassin filtration and our spam folders are full of this annoying mails, even the inbox folder is receiving some!

In "SPAM filters" I enabled the "adult filter" and made the action "Drop Email"
And for the Spamassassin setup, I select Low "Threshold (5.0)" and "Delete the spam."

Still receiving more and more spam messages which cause big problems with our clients.

Any solutions or even suggestions?

Have you updated SpamAssassin to the latest version?

SpamAssassin is reactive; it's based on the authors of the rulesets keeping ahead of spammers.

If you're not using SpamBlocker functionality built into the DirectAdmin exim.conf files you should probably try that; on our servers it blocks 98% of the spam before it even reaches the server (before it even reaches SpamAssassin).

A few years ago there was a good reason to say don't block spammers; now there isn't. If you're not using it already, use SpamBlocker technology.

If you're already using it, then you might consider updating to SpamBlocker Version 3-beta, but I no longer recommend that because we're working on a new version this week.

It might just be an increase in spam on the 'net.

Sudden huge 200+ spams over the weekend

I don't know what I have or not yet updated but got like 200+ spams for myself and other clietns too 100+ I'll try to update the spamblocker.

I'm on SpamBlocker2. Few fixes I did and seem to work. Once you have the Spamblcker3 final, I'll probably need your help to convert and to do few maintenance on the server for me.

I was going to plan an update on server too, moving to VPS and running more update OS and applications.

Will contact you once everything is written down here.

New SpamBlocker3 will be ready within a week; anything I can't finish will wait for 3.1 or 4.

My problem is my server is pretty much outdated in software wise. No dovecot and maildir. At the same time, want to put into another server using VMWARE. It will help for my backup purpose. So much tests to be done first in the coming weeks :9 There goes my summer vacation
