Squirrelmail/imap errors all of a sudden

I suddenly have problems across several different servers in Squirrelmail..

When searching mail archives or sometimes even when just logging some users in they get:

Warning: fread() [function.fread]: Length parameter must be greater than 0. in /var/www/html/squirrelmail-1.4.7/functions/imap_general.php on line 282
ERROR:
ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server.
Query: SEARCH CHARSET ISO-8859-1 ALL FROM {4} dsff

I've seen this happen on different versions of squirrelmail and different versions of PHP.

Anyone know what might cause this all of a sudden ?

This is what pops up in the maillog (username masked for privacy)
