Hi All:)
I'm migrating one of the domain from on DA ver 1.23.5 to new server DA ver 1.29.3 . I use the backup feature on old DA server to transfer all the setting to new server. Everything looks well but when user login into their squirrelmail, they can't see their emails in the squirrelmail inbox, sent and trash items. But if they login into old server squirrelmail, all the email still can see in squirrelmail.
Anyone have any idea ? Can msg me using yahoo msger (ID: eling.geo) . Thanks.

Regards,
Elaine

Maybe you had Mbox format on the old server and now you have Maildir?

Hi
The current server is running on squirrelmail version 1.4.9a with DA 1.29.3, not sure is running on mbox or maildir. This is a virtual domain servers where hosting the emails. Service running on vm-pop3d, OS debian(version 4.1.1-13) with exim. The emails just don't display in their inbox, trash and sent item once they login. So, how should I do next? Is that something wrong with squirrelmail ?

smtalk asked a very valid question. If one is running maildir, and the other mbox, then it won't work.

Are you saying both are running service vm-pop3d? Do you see a service "dovecot" on either?

Hi Donkeykick,
Sorry, giving wrong info. The old server is running on exim and dovecot. The new server is running on exim and vm-pop3d. Anyway to make users' email able to read their email item back ?

Hi Smtalk,
Just want to check with you, will existing user on vm-pop3d will affected when using squirrelmail after I built dovecot ?

Well, I know you asked smtalk, but...

Your previous post says you had dovecot on the old server, so if you want things to stay the same you would need dovecot on the new one too.

For the conversion see this:

If you are asking what things within DA changes, not much. There may be some 3rd party software that is affected, but I have had excellent luck with it. It helped make a picky blackbarry work, the ClamAV works great, as well as spamassassin, and spamblocker. I would assume that if you are simply moving over to a new server, and dovecot is not the default, you probably would be happy just switching. Read the link above as it will probably shed some light on it for you.

Hi All,
Is that have any way or anyone know how to divert the dovecot from old server to new server running on vm-pop3d?

A little lost as to what you mean. If you follow smtalk's advice to build dovecot, that will replace your vm-pop3d. You had dovecot on the old server, so making the new server run it also would make sense to me.

Hi Donkeykick
The problem is the new server is already a live server, already host customers email with vm-pop3d already. So, I was thinking if not affected new servers customers email.

You can only run one or the other. When you go to dovecot, all email is converted from mbox to maildir. If you want to be compatible with the old server, which was running dovecot, I'd upgrade the new one to run dovecot. Come to think of it, I'd upgrade to dovecot anyway, just because it seems to run so much better.

You might want to read a bit about mbox and maildir to see what you want.

When you upgrade to dovecot, the customers using vm-pop3d will be upgraded. Since your old server had dovecot, and you are familiar with those options, I'd stick with it.
