Hi,

I have a client who want to run an SSL cert on the domainname which is also his nameservers hostname.
Can this become a conflict or doesn't the port 443 involved any consequents, when adding a SSL to it.

What does dns have to do with ssl? Theres no reason they cant run on the same ip.

Hi SCSI,

When trying to add an SSL to the domain which is the base domainname of the server i get the following error;

Cannot Execute Your Request
Details
You can only add a certificate if you own the ip you are using

Normaly i would add an IP to the reseller and then give the user where the SSL is ment for a dedicated IP. But in this case it is not possible. Because changing the IP will conflict with the current IP adress for his ns1.domainname.tld.
How can i solve this. Or should i add the SSL through a commandline instead of using the directadmin menu ?

looking forward to your reply.

If you give us the real domain name involved and explain the usage it may help us understand and respond to your issue.

But unless I'm missing something there's no reason for ns1 to have the same IP# as the main domain and/or www.

we have installed a server with the domainname medmanager.nl. On this server we run Directadmin with ns1.medmanager.nl and ns2.medmanager.nl The main IP of *.medmanager.nl is x.x.x.150. The IP of ns1.medmanager.nl is also x.x.x.150.
Now we want to install a SSL on the domain medmanager.nl. But because the IP is a Shared one, we can add a SSL to it.
And it is not a good idea to switch the IP for www.medmanager.nl into a dedicated IP because then the zonefiles of the nameserver also gets another IP adres.

So, how can i solve this issue ? Add the SSL through SSH install instead of using the SSL script which runs in the directadmin panel ?

As I wrote there's no reason for ns1.medmanager.nl to have the same IP#. That's a decision you've made. You can easily use any other IP#. So change the IP# of medmanager.nl, and then change the A record for ns1.medmanager.nl back to the original one.
