Hi all,

I want to start securing my server by using a ssl connection to acces the directAdmin panel...

At the moment there are running about 20 domains on the server and i own 1 ip address....

Could somebody please help me in the right way to start of securing with ssl... i contacted Verisign and they came up with prices of 1400 euros a year... Is it possible to get this cheaper?

So my question finally is can somebody advice me what kind of certificate i need and what are the general prices for this?

Thanks very mutch.
Best,
Mark

Way overpriced you shouldnt have to pay more then $20/yr usd for a ssl certificate.

yeah thats what i was thinking also....

The thing i cant figure out is how mutch of those certificates do i need? there is about 25 domains on the server... do i need for every domain a single certificate or is 1 enough for the entire server?

Cheers,
Mark

You need an ssl cert for every domain you host that will require ssl. Each domain will require its own ip address. The only way around having each domain ssl and each having its own ip address is to buy a multi-domain ssl certificate but I think they are very expensive like $599/usd a year or more.

scsi,

Says you. We buy a few hundred a year, and all the wholesale vendors have gone up.

All of them.

We've held our full-service prices but we can't compete with the cheapest anymore.

Sucks to be you I pay $9/year for rapidssl and they are certified up to $10,000. I only charge my customers $12/year for the certs too.

* RapidSSL is $14.88 when purchased for one year and just $12.88 when purchased for three years.

Still better price then crapdaddy though :D

If you can still get $9/year on a new account for non-prepay, then please let us know where. Not everyone is willing to put up a lot of money.

Many of us used to get our RapidSSL Certificates for $9.99 (maybe 9.95; I forget) through a Modernbill Enom account, but when Modernbill was bought by Parallels, the price doubled. Currently you can still get the same price with an Enom account but you must both buy the account and then pay a deposit, which not all of us want to do). Enom resellers can make you a reseller two, but they can't set up an account cheaper than about $10.50.
