startup/shutdown

Hey Guys,

I am a serious newb when it comes to serverside stuff. I was recently hired into a web design position when the guy in charge of the backend stuff quit. So now it trial by fire for me.

The other day we had a blackout, but luckily the UPS' held up. MY question is how do I get in and safely shut down the web server? Can I do it from Direct Admin? Our battery backups are only good for so long. Any help to get me opn the right path would be greatly appreciated.

If you have root access, login via shell and execute

shutdown -h now

To turn it back on, you'll need someone at the power switch when you're ready to come back online.

It can't be shutdown from within directadmin
