Stats Question

It's my understanding that 'Webalyzer' comes with DA. It's also my impression that 'Webalyzer' sucks real bad. I mean, it's useless, right? Unless I'm missing some golden nugget somewhere, the stats it presents are essentially useless.

What I'd like to know is if there's a reason why I shouldn't remove it - and how would I go about doing that?

I'd like to know what a better solution is for complete statistical reports, something like AWStats, for example. Anyone have any suggestions or experience with AWStats?

AWStats:
http://awstats.sourceforge.net/

Thanks!

There was a request about a year ago to replace webalizer with awstats or at least give administrators the option, but nothing came of it and probably won't.

Another mans' trash is another's treasure.

AWStats looks like my treasure. Indeed.

It seems to have installed properly but I'm not seeing '0' stats showing and this;

Never updated (See 'Build/Update' on awstats_setup.html page)
{Update now}

If I hit 'update now' I get this: Error: An AWStats update process seems to be already running for this config file. Try later. If this is not true, remove manually lock file '/tmp/awstats.dracule.com.lock'.

How long does this 'update' usually take..?

Depends on how large your log file is. It has to parse the whole thing. ;) Just give it about 15 minutes. That should be plenty of time. If its still running at that point, check /tmp and see if you see any awstats lock files.

I'm not sure if a solution has been found yet but now that DirectAdmin forces log rotation on a nightly basis it might be wise to have awstats update all statistics right before DirectAdmin does the rotation otherwise stats will be lost if an update wasn't done.
See the posts on 5-10-05 + in the following thread for possible solutions:

Done. I even shut down access to the site to allow it whatever resources it wants but it doesn't seem to be working. I'll wait patiently but my users won't. lol

EDIT:

20 minutes later and nothing. The lock file is 63bytes and holding. Does that make sense..?

EDIT: Reinstalled and nothing. The 'Update Now' doesn't do squat. Any ideas..?

FINAL EDIT: DeActivating, Uninstalling, Deleting and the ReInstalling it seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for the help!

Its just a lockfile. Its pretty much just a place holder, so the filesize is not of importance (unless it were huge.. ;) ). Still don't know whats causing it to hang. Have you tried to update it manually via command line?
