Dear Friends,

I own a hosting company, called pla.NET.gr and the domain name is www.pla.net.gr. I created a new server and I installed the DA control panel as the main tool for managing the web server and the users I host. Until now I used to have the control panel accessible under the sub-domain http://manage.pla.net.gr.

On the new server I setup with DA, I see that even if I assign a specific subdomain, I still have to add the ":2222" at the end of the sub-domain in the address bar of the browser. I assume that if I change the default port from 2222 to 80, I would solve that problem. My question is if this is a suggested solution, in order to avoid typing a specific port, or should I create some redirection. I am also wondering if this will affect the domain pla.net.gr itself, if I change the IP on the DNS zone and point it to the new server as soon as I migrate it.

Please note that I have setup the subdomain I desire to have for management on the "Server's Hostname", under the "Administrator Settings" of the "Admin Level" of the DirectAdmin cotrol panel. Temporarily this is cp.pla.net.gr.

Thanks a lot in advance for all your support.

Best regards,
Angelos

Hmmm... Can someone answer this post if has the knowledge?

I want to access the DirectAdmin control panel using only the subdomain, without adding the port at the end. Which is the most convenient way to do this. To create a redirection on a .htaccess file and host it on the subdomain's directory or to change the listening port of the DirectAdmin from 2222 to 80?

Also I am wondering if I follow the second scenario, meaning to change the listening port of DirectAdmin to 80, would that affect the websites in general or this will be only for the domain (or sub-domain) I setup on the "Server's Hostname", under the "Administrator Settings" of the "Admin Level" of the DirectAdmin cotrol panel?

Thanks in advance for any kind support.

I really do not understand your question. To access the control panel you have to use the :2222. Are you trying to access the control panel without the :2222? To do that there are some hacks around to accomplish that but it is not DirectAdmin supported. One is using da_proxy. Search the forum for it.

Hi floyd!

First of all thank you for your reply. Maybe I was not very clear. I know that the default port is 2222. I am not trying to access the control panel without the ":2222" at the end of the URL, but I would like to advise my customers to access the control panel with a specific sub-domain, like http://manage.pla.net.gr or something like that, without the hassle and make them confused with ports (":2222" at the end of the URL).

This is what I would like to know. Which is the most appropriate way to do this.

I hope I am more clear now.

Again, thank you!

Yes you are clear. However there is no DirectAdmin supported way of doing this. As I stated before search for da_proxy in this forum.

What you could also do is forward the subdomain to the url with the :2222 and then the end user would not have to remember it.

Hey... DA-proxy worked like a charm! Thank you very much for your help, floyd!

Of course I had to setup the relevant subdomain in the control panel, in order to create the necessary sub-directory in the "domains" directory and put the three files there. I had to change nothing in the configuration of DA-proxy.

Again, thanks a lot.
