I have created a subdomain and i've to create a user for it but i always get : 530 Login incorrect.

state :

the username i use is the same as the subdomain's name.
i've put a custom path : /home/website/domains/website.com/private_html/thesub/
i have SSL starter installed (i dont think this has anything to do with that but anyway)

i have tried to put the domain.com , ftp.domain.com , ip address but still the same. I've searched the forums a couple of days ago and found a thread similar to this and the user found as a solution to replace /etc/proftpd.vhosts.conf with a blank one. I did so and it worked but only for once. When i tried to reconnect i was getting the same error. Now i've tried to do the same but it doest work. I think i've tried everything

Any help appreciated,

Thanks in advance

Make sure the user was defined in the /etc/proftpd.passwd file. That is the one that defines usernames and passwords. The username should be in there as [email protected]. If it is for a subdomain, it may be different.

hmm.. that actually worked , it doesnt matter if its a subdomain user or something.. the problem is that if its a subdomain user its doesnt add the user to /etc/proftpd.passwd

thanks anyway toml , that fixed my problem temporarily

I get the same error, i've tried both them suggestions and neither work, has anyone found the soloution to this? if so please help!

It appears that you've created a subdomain and then an ftp user, and that the ftp user cannot log in.

You say you tried to create a user for the subdomain; I only know how to create a user for the domain. Is that what you did?

/home/website/domains/website.com/private_html/thesub/

looks fine, presuming that's where the contents are.

How are you trying to log in?

Are you trying to log in as "user" or as "[email protected]"? Or as "[email protected]"?

Jeff

Well, i fixed the main user one, but everytime the account trys to create an ftp account and login, it says error, password incorrect.. when it is correct, using the [email protected] or [email protected] or name

If you undertstand that.

That's my problem :(

I'll give you an example..

"user added odd.invisiongaming.net"
they can ftp into their public_html, have direct admin access, when they create a ftp login, they can't login with it.. using the ways stated above..
Please help!

I can't help any further because I don't see how your responses mesh with my questions. If you can answer my questions specifically maybe I can help. Otherwise, perhaps someone else can.

Azrael,
Have you verified that the /etc/proftpd.passwd file is correct as stated by toml in the 2nd post of this thread.

It would help us all if you could describe your problem from the beginning with as much detail as possible.

I'll also point out that Internet Explorer sometimes has issues with multiple @ signs when using ftp mode. I would recommend getting a better client. Smartftp seems to be pretty good, although I haven't used it much.
