subdomain or path

Hi,

Im a new kid on the block, so im sorry for my (probably) stupid question.

My main page is gombault.nl(/index), which works half, because it doesnt show the background picture, but thats another problem.

My real problem is this:

if I want another page, such as gombault.nl/portfolio, do I have to make a subdomain? Because it doesnt show (exist) when I add this page in the /public.html map.

No you just have to make the folder inside /home/<user>/domains/gombault.nl/public_html
