Hello everyone,

Though I've worked with DA for a while now, I'm fairly new to subdomains. I want to have a website on my main domain, and have a webshop on my subdomain. So I create a subdomain; shop.mywebsite.com and then use Filezilla to transfer the entire webshop software. Once that's done I go to the link and all it shows is "This is a placeholder for the subdomain shop.mywebsite.com" What do I do now? I tried deleting the index.html but that just left me with a blank page. The same happened when I tried to manually install Joomla onto another subdomain by transferring it with Filezilla.

What do I have to do? I've searched around, but there's no clear anwser to be found :/

Thanks in advance for any help!

thats curios, have you uploaded the joomla in the right directory? Did you upload with the user that own the subdoain? Have you tryed to reach directly a file where you uploaded the files? (ex. /index.php)

Well, you pointed me in the right direction. After installing fresh Joomla 1.7 and webshop software and deleting index.html, both now work. I suspect that the webshop software I had was either incomplete or just outdated and what went wrong with Joomla is most likely the fact that I tried to copy an old Joomla 1.5 website onto a new website.

It took my some time to figure out, but your advice did help. Thanks!!

The simplest reason is usually the right reason (Occam's Razor [wikipedia.org]).

The index.html file overrides any other index file. No doubt removing it first would have given you a working website.
