I want to create a subdomain that has it's own public_html directory. I know this is possible. At my old server, when I create a new domain on domain administration, and call it sub.domain.com, it automatically works and goes to the public_html folder of the created 'subdomain'. Now it doesn't work for some reason, probably I have to change something in the DNS administration but I don't know anything about DNS.

How can this be done?

DirectAdmin has never created subdomains with their own public_html folder. If you want a subdomain to be created in it's own public_html folder, then create it as if it were a regular domain. If it's a subdomain of a domain already on the server, then the DNS created by DirectAdmin will work properly.

That is what I mean. I am creating a regular domain. But then it doesn't work...

If it's not your server check with your hosting company. If it's your server then explain more fully; it doesn't work doesn't help. What gets created? Where? Look at the domain-specific httpd.conf file for the subdomain; what does it say is the default root directory for html?
