Switching between test server and live site

I have a live site:
aaa.net

On a different part of my hosted server, I have a test site:
bbb.com

I am using DirectAdmin and the sites are with different users.

I now want to activate bbb.com because my test site is ready. It's URL and all the database etc should change to aaa.net.

My current live site aaa.net should become the new test site or a backup for if the change to bbb.com fails.

In the end I can test plugins and when it works I switch back again to that working site. So I have always a back up/test site and a live site.

How to do this?
 
Some ways that come to mind:

- Rename domains; you can do this under domain administration
- Move the files to the other directories
 
Just move the files and database. We do it all the time.
