System Backup Failing Silently

My weekly backup failed to run last night, and when I attempted to run it manually, almost instantly I received a "Your backups are now ready" message, which just contained the text:

Performing sanity checks: Performing cleanup operations: Completed
<br>

It looks like the backup process was just halted or died somewhere without throwing any sort of error status. Does anyone else have this problem or at least any idea where I could check to see what happened?
/var/log/directadmin/2006-Jan-31.log hasn't got any information, and I don't see anything out of the ordinary anywhere else.

It turns out that when I upgraded mysql from 4.0.x to 4.1.x it trashed /etc/init.d/mysqld and wrote /etc/init.d/mysql. I just symlinked one to the other and everything is running fine.

So if you're using the SRPM build method to update mysql, and something similar happens to you, now you know why.
