I would just use the firewall its the easiest way. ip_blacklist is only for the directadmin control panel.

If you don't know how to add a firewall, then don't. Because most likely you'll lock yourself out of your server.

Better hire someone who does know how to set it up and whom you can trust. We recommend ourselves of course :) but any good systems admnistrator can do it for you.

heey,

okay thank you,, but isnt there anyway to use the blacklist from DA to block some one from my ip that i use?

No; the DirectAdmin blocklist is only read by the DirectAdmin binary.

Sure you could probably change the sourcecode and recompile every web-facing daemon on your system to read the DirectAdmin blocklist, but if you can do that you can probably be trusted to use the firewall :).

You can also use the /etc/hosts.deny file; it's a simple blocklist that runs at the application level for most daemons. Be sure to read it's manpage and make sure you understand it thoroughly so you don't lock yourself out of your server administration.
