The service 'named' on server ........... is currently down

I cannot restart named service. How can I reinstall please? I cannot find this option in custombuild. I run AL8. Thanks.

You have to investigate as to why named does not start other wise reinstallation has no use.
Named is not installed by custombuild but by the operating system by the way. It's amongst the pre-install commands.

Try (re)starting named via SSH and see what error it gives. If it shows something to look in journalctl -xe or something like that, use that and see what the error is and post it here so we understand what is going on and what could be the issue.
Often in /var/log/messages (on RH alike systems) one can see what error is displayed.

From another forum post: It wouldnt start at all, i moved down to STABLE release which allowed my "delete zone" button to re-apear then i removed the zone serverhost.domain.com and NAMED fired back up :/

We've seen this problem on a number of ocassions.

It seems to be caused by a bug of some sort, but have not yet investigated it in great detail as it is relatively rare thankfully.
