The service 'proftpd' currently down

hello. after installing direct admin my proftpd was down .
i have restart server many times.but... .

Have you tried starting it from the command line to see if you get any errors? Have you tried looking at the /var/log/messages log?

i have the same problem, in DA its say that service is stopped and frequently email me that proftpd service is currently down! in command line mode i run service proftpd start. & it feeds me back Ok. but when i run this command service proftpd status it wirte "proftpd dead but subsys locked". what should I do for that?
